MIND ID Group Reclaims 8,000 Hectares of Land and Rehabilitates 37,700 Hectares of River Basin (DAS), Improves Biodiversity Quality

JAKARTA - MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, continues to strengthen environmental recovery efforts through the reclamation of post-mining land and rehabilitation of river basins (DAS) in various operational areas.

Cummulatively up to 2025, the MIND ID Group has conducted reclamation of more than 8,000 hectares of post-mining land and rehabilitation of more than 37,700 hectares of river basins (DAS). The achievement is part of the increasingly integrated sustainable mining practice, while at the same time, provide positive impact to the improvement of biodiversity quality.

MIND ID Division Head of Sustainability, Binahidra Logiardi, said that the increase in demand for global strategic minerals must be balanced with the improvement of environmental management.

Binahidra believes that production increase must be implemented in line with the realization of progressive and measured environmental management program. This is also evidence of the company’s commitment to regulators, investors, financial institutions, as well as the global market.

“The realization of reclamation and biodiversity protection is one of the main focus in the implementation of MIND ID Group’s Sustainability Pathway. Through this approach, each entity is encouraged to have adequate biodiversity management protocol, especially in regions with high conservation value,” he said.

The impact of this program is beginning to show with the increasing quality of biodiversity in a number of operational areas.

PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam), through its North Maluku Nickel Mining Business Unit, has posted an increase of biodiversity index from 1.757 to 1.963. PT Freeport Indonesia conducted mangrove conservation which cummulatively covers more than 2,200 hectares.

In a different direction to land reclamation program,PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) focuses on the rehabilitation of Toba Lake water catchment region, which in 2025 has reached more than 4,000 hectares as part of the strengthening of the region’s hydrological function.

Subsequently, PT Timah Tbk posted a biodiversity index increase of 2.88 in 2022 to 3.26 in 2025, through its integrated land and sea reclamation program.

In the nickel sector, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk realizes post-mining land reclamation of 156.67 hectares in Sorowako Block and 1.42 hectares in the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) Morowali throughout 2025. Moreover, the rehabilitation of river basins (DAS) by the company has reached 17,877 hectares in various Indonesian regions.

Binahindra stressed that sustainability is no longer just part of the company’s operations, but has become an important factor in maintaining the access to funding and market.

“Sustainability Pathway is not only a tool for reports, but an instrument to manage the impact, mitigation of risks, and create long term value,” he concluded.

Previously, Minister of the Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, stressed that economic development must be implemented in line with environmental conservation and protection of biodiversity.

“Development is not only regarding islands and tourism, but also related to shipping, maritime economic activities, to the fishery sector. But what should always be remembered is that the development process must always be oriented towards environmental conservation and the protection of biodiversity,” said Jumhur, at the Indonesia International Environmental Technology and Innovation Expo & Conference (INVIROTECH) 2026.
