MIND ID and Local People Change Waste into Products of Value, to Drive Circular Economy

MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, is committed together with the people, to create a circular economy integrating additional business added value with ecosystem balance in surrounding operational areas.

This commitment is part of the efforts of MIND ID and all Group Members in strengthening the sustainable future foundation of Indonesia.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Pria Utama, explained that people in the regions are very enthusiastic in contributing to developing the circular economic ecosystem.

MIND ID is also consistent in presenting empowerment programs integrated with the operational supply chain of the Group, thereby strengthening the local economy, while at the same time, protect environmental sustainability.

“Circular Economy is the ecosystem of future civilization. We will consistently invite all parties to take part in supporting this program, enabling the targetted impact to be achieved,” said Pria Utama.

One of the programs continuously optimized is the Waste Bank or Bank Sampah of PT ANTAM Tbk, which have succeeded in moving thousands of people to sort waste from home and taken to a centralized gathering point.

During 2024, the program has produced 1,750 kilograms of compost which contributes to the local ecosystem recovery in the areas surrounding the operations of the Company.

Meanwhile, PT Freeport Indonesia has initiated the program called Romah Kompos or Compost House in three villages, Manyar Sidorukun Village, Manyarejo Village and Manyar Sidomukti Village, Manyar District, Gresik Regency.

The program becomes a solution for the management of organic waste, while at the same time, a community empowerment facility. Hundreds of villagers are now more aware of the importance of processing home waste to become compost fertilizer, beneficial for agriculture and environmental greening of the surrounding areas.

On the other hand, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) has public involvement in processing water hyacinth at the Asahan PLTA Dam into fertilizer and compost, as well as utilizing waste paper to become products with added value.

Through a series of workshops, accompaniment, and support from INALUM, scores of people living around Asahan PLTA now have new skills in processing waste, while at the same time, support decarbonization efforts currently being campaigned by the Government.

Through such initiatives, MIND ID ensures that efforts in public empowerment are not only based on output, but really capable of presenting a huge impact for the people and strengthening the foundations for future civilization.

“We are present not merely just a mover for the creation of added value of Indonesia’s mineral resource, but also to move the local people to contribute to the development of sustainable future civilization,” he said.
