Excellence in Strategic Mining Investment, Evidence of Mineral Investment Strengthening National Industrialization

12 October 2026

JAKARTA – Transformation of the national mineral industry continues to show actual impact towards the strengthening of Indonesia’s economy. Through integrated strategic investments and downstream development, the mining sector is no longer merely a commodity producer, but continues to develop into an industrialization mover strengthening added value, investment, and state income.

This ensures that Indonesia’s mineral wealth is able to create bigger economic benefits in the country, in line with the mandate of Article 33 clause (3) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which stresses that the natural wealth contained in the earth is controlled by the state and used as much as possible for the welfare of the people.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM as well as Head of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Roeslani, explained that investment is now one of the main motors of Indonesia’s economic growth.

The contribution of investment towards national economic growth has increased to early 38%-39%, far higher compared to around 28%-32% in the previous period. In the past decade, total investment realization entering Indonesia has even reached about Rp9,100 trillion.

Rosan also stressed that downstreaming constitutes Indonesia’s economic transformation engine as it is capable of building solid domestic industrial chains, enabling added value, investments, and economic activities to be enjoyed by more people in Indonesia.

As an extension of the State, MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, continues to direct investments to the creation of an integrated mineral industry ecosystem from upstream to downstream. Various strategic projects are currently being developed, from the integrated bauxite-alumina-aluminium ecosystem in West Kalimantan, refining and processing of precious metals in Gresik, to the development of nickel based electric vehicle battery in Maluku and West Java.

For MIND ID, the direction of the policy has become the basis in building various strategic mineral downstreaming projects. MIND ID strives to ensure that Indonesia’s mineral wealth does not stop as a mining commodity, but developed into a source of state income, industrialization mover, and foundation for Indonesia’s long term economic growth.

For its consistency in building strategic investments strengthening national downstreaming and industrialization, MIND ID has received the Excellence in Strategic Mining Investment award at the Investor Daily Summit 2026.

The award is an acknowledgement of MIND ID’s consistency in encouraging strategic investment in the mining sector, which not only strengthen corporate performance, but also create added value, expand national industrial basis, and raise contribution towards Indonesia’s economy.

At the event, MIND ID Vice President Director, Dany Amrul Ichdan, said that the award reflects the success of the company in directing investment towards strategic sectors capable of creating long term added value for Indonesia.

“The investments we have made are not only oriented towards asset growth, but also to open a new chapter in Indonesia’s mining sector through the strengthening of the mineral value chain. This way, there would be more added value, economic activities, and benefits created for the country and people.”

One of the examples of the downstreaming investment impact can be seen from the development of the bauxite ecosystem. Bauxite, previously value at about US40perton,cangouptoaboutUS350 per ton after processing into alumina, and can reach about US$3,200 per ton when developed into aluminium.

The added value creates new economic activites, expand investment, opens fields of employment, as well as enlarge the potential of state income.

A similar transformation is also occuring on the nickel commodity. The mineral previously exported widely as raw material, now becomes a foundatiion for the development of the ferronickel industry, battery material, to electric vehicle ecosystem which is part of Indonesia’s future industry.

Dany stressed that the mining sector investments by MIND ID will continue and in future will show even bigger benefits to support economic sovereignty and welfare of the people.

“Strategic investments in the mineral sector is not merely building new facilities. What is more important is how the investment strengthens national industry, raise added value in the domestic market, expand state income, and create sustainable economic benefits for the people. In the end, that is the foundation which will strengthen the economic sovereignty of Indonesia” concluded Dany.
