9 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze, The Efforts of Mining Companies in Developing Performance of Indonesian Athletes
Indonesian athletes have won nine gold, five silver, and six bronze medals at SEA Games Thailand 2025, proving that accomplishments in sports are built through a long process rarely seen at the podium. Behind every achievement, there has been consistent training, sustainable guidance, as well as support from various parties, together creating space for young athletes to develop.
Such achievements do not happen instantly. An ecosystem is needed which can maintain the continuity of guidance, from searching for potential athletes, development of capabilities, to accompaniment, so that the athletes can continue their performance at the national as well as international level.
One of the collaboration supporting such effort is implemented by the Executive Board of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI), together with MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, since 2023. Through a sustainable training program, young talents from various regions are given the opportunity to train with national trainers, follow various competition, as well as develop their potential.
To date, the program has reached more than 4,000 athletes through 13 regional championships. Training is also given to athletes and trainers directly and supported through various national as well as international level championships, which have become a place to develop accomplishments.
PB PASI track coach, Fitri Haryadi, believes that the sustainability of training becomes an important factor in encouraging the accomplishments of Indonesian athletes in the past few years. She said that support for training programs and facilities are getting better and have assisted in creating a condusive environment which enables athletes to grow optimally.
“Support from MIND ID becomes one of the important roles for the advancement of Indonesian athletes. An example is the existence of the Pelatnas training center in Pangalengan, West Java,” said Fitri when contacted, Sunday (19/7/2026).
According to Fitri, the impact of such training is beginning to show from the increasing accomplishments of Indonesian athletes in various international events. At the SEA Games Thailand 2025, athletics have become one of the highest gold medal donors for the Indonesian contingent who took nine gold medals.
“Such accomplishment show that consistent training is able to produce competitive athletes at the international level,” she said.
What’s more, the training results have also been seen at the regeneration process of national athletes. After the 2026 National Competition of Athletes 16-20 years of age, three Indonesian athletes have passed the qualification for the U20 World Competition in Oregon, USA, which will be held in August 2026.
For PB PASI, the achievement is an important indicator that the training has not only produced short term accomplishments, but also prepare subsequent athletic generation who are capable of protecting Indonesia’s competitive ability in the international stage.
“This shows that athletic training is not only focusing on senior athletes, but also ensure the creation of a new generation of Indonesian athletes ready to compete at the world level,” said Fitri.
She hopes that collaboration of various parties in national sports training can continue to ensure Indonesian athletes have a bigger chance of developing and preparing themselves to face various international events, from SEA Games, Asian Games, to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
In line with the commitment to develop Indonesia’s Golden Generation, support to sports training program is an actual contribution of long term social investment. From the running tracks to the world stage, the road taken by athletes to achieve their accomplishments is proof that Indonesia’s Golden Generation can grow through opportunity, training, and support given sustainably.
